Nearmap is currently providing a virtual model of the real world – at a scale and detail that hasn’t been done before. At Nearmap, we have an appetite for high performing individuals and we are currently on the hunt for a Geospatial Content Specialist.

As a Geospatial Content Specialist you will help manage the survey processing pipeline.  You will monitor surveys as they move through the processing pipeline.  This position will work with the US & AU teams to resolve global/regional processing issues, ensuring that surveys are QA’d and published with expedience.  You will work with the Survey Operations Leads and Pre-Sales to qualify, quote, extract, and deliver 2D/3D data for client requested AOIs.  In addition to working with the data, you should be willing to support the team with operational situations as required.

A typical day for you may look like this

  • Receives capture media shipped from field and uploads surveys to cloud storage for processing.
  • Monitors media uploads and survey processing and resolves exceptions.
  • Quality assures processed survey output according to quality standards.
  • Raises potential hardware anomalies found during quality assurance.
  • Provides feedback to Survey Operations Leads about reflights, flying issues, or clouds encountered during quality assurance.
  • Identifies, merges, and processes partial surveys.
  • Prioritizes the processing queue.
  • Works with US & AU teams to resolve global and regional processing issues.
  • Approves surveys ready for publishing.
  • Works with Survey Operations Leads to ensure flown coverage matches processed and published coverage.
  • Ensures that flight service contractors have sufficient media to complete scheduled surveys, including shipping media to aircraft as required.
  • Ensures media inventory and tracking system is up to date.
  • Formats survey media as required.
  • Works with courier on shipping related issues.
  • Ensures Aerial Survey Logs are present with received media and are processed correctly.
  • Flags and escalates exceptions.
  • Creates 3D technical specification sheets within agreed upon timeframe.
  • Delivers 2D and 3D extraction content within agreed upon timeframes. 
  • Uses information provided from Survey Operations Leads and Pre-Sales to generate Nearmap NOW quotes for client requested AOIs.
  • Works with Pre-Sales and Support to troubleshoot issues relating to data quality.
  • Provides feedback to Survey Systems Team when new releases of planning and processing software are released. 
  • Provides operational improvement suggestions which could improve and streamline the planning and processing software.
  • Supports the Survey Ops Roadmap initiatives through providing insight, information, and suggestions which help progress the initiatives forward.
  • Establishes best practices and document operational workflows and procedures to ensure they are globally consistent, scalable and efficient.
  • Assists with the repair/maintenance or install/uninstall of camera equipment when necessary.
  • Complies with responsibilities of working for a public company.
  • Complies with all local legislative requirements.
  • Adheres to company guidelines and the corporate Code of Conduct.
  • Where appropriate keeps up to date with legislative requirements.
  • Acts in an ethical way when dealing with company assets and other people.

More about what you need to bring…

  • BA/BS/BE degree preferred - in Geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, or Business Operations
  • Experience with ESRI software or other GIS software required.
  • Experience in an operational environment or data production using a variety of systems.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience within related fields.
  • Experience with mapping, aerial survey, remote sensing, and GIS is required.
  • Proficiency with computers; Linux, and AWS experience preferred.
  • Comfortable in command line environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Very organized with attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Rational, proactive and able to deal with issues in a pragmatic and timely fashion
  • Meticulous in completing jobs 100% and on schedule
  • Not afraid to ask questions 
  • Interested in learning about new technologies
  • Enjoys communicating and working with a variety of people
  • Good oral/written communication skills
  • The ability to lift 50 pounds.
